Aylward, Foster and Lutz honored at Bidwell

The El Rancho Chico Golf Club held its Annual Memorial 1+1=1 Golf Tournament at Bidwell last week. The tournament is held to honor and remember those club members who passed away the previous year. This year, the tournament honored Tom Aylward, Bob Foster and Jack Lutz. The format consists of two, two-man teams, each two-man team plays a 2-Man Scramble and the scores of each 2-man team are added together for the total team score. The field of 68 players was divided into two flights, a white tee flight and a yellow tee flight.

White tee flight: 1, Chas Gower, Tyler Newton, Ron Serna and Dave Williams, 130.4; 2, Ken Janke, Mike Janke, Art Rutherford and Kyle Utterback, 132.2; 3, Rio Gates, Jon Rettig, Travis Shute and Jeff Watts, 133.8; 4. Dan Evaro, Andy Godsill, Barry Woolf and Josh Woolf, 135.4. Yellow tee flight: 1, Craig Fellner, Ben Heerema, Jeff Nedved and Eric Sargent, 123.3; 2, AJ Haggard, Curtis Huff, Ken Lee and Jim Marler, 129.6; 3, Lane Bates, Richard DeVaney, Chris Malone and Roy Peters, 130.2; 4, Gary Albers, Art Gausemel, Phil Jones and Rich Lash, 133.3. Closest to the pin winners: No. 2, Jones; No. 4, Randy Cook; No. 7, Cap Porterfield; No. 12, Utterback; No. 16, Rettig.

The Bidwell Women's Golf Club eliminated nine holes, at random following the round, for a game called "Blind Nine" for its weekly tournament. First flight low gross: Shelley Connolly, 85; Game: 1, Becky Callas, 34; 2, tie, Betty Linzy and Kelly MacKinnon, 37. Second flight low gross: Yumiko Hankins, 102; Game: 1, Liz Mosher, 34.5; 2, Cindy Bell, 37; 3, Sandy Sample, 37.5. Third flight low gross: Melodie Johnson, 111; Game: 1, Lynne Collar, 34.5; 2, Joan Patton, 35.5; 3, Barbara Lutz, 38. Closest to the pin on No. 2: Pat Van Dyke.

The Canyon Oaks Senior Men's Club enjoyed a good turnout for its individual stoke play 2023 Senior Open. There were enough players for the field to be divided into four flights, and sweeten the payout pot a little. Brian Sweeney took low gross in the first white tee flight with a great score 77, albeit he tied with Brian Endemano, also with a 77, for that honor, but Endemano was low net (71) and took the payout for that achievement. Randy Maday took second low net, also with a 71, after losing the card off to Endemano. Greg Miller finished in the third spot with a net score of 72. All the players were single digit handicaps in the first flight.

Low net: 1, Bruce Alpert, 74; 2, Bob O’Sullivan, 75; 3, Scott Bobbins, 76. Yellow tee flight low gross: Scott Borges, 78. Low net: 1, Keith Chamberlin, 67; 2, Bob Kromer, 69; 3, Tom Peppas, 71.

Karen Olson and Cynthia Paulo tied for low gross in the Canyon Oaks Women's Golf Club outing last week with a score of 86. Gina Davis was low net over the field with a 67. The game was "Bargain Day," and players could eliminate two scores on both the front and back nine. Game: 1, Davis, 57; 2, tie, Fran Wedow and Cathy Edgar, 59. Closest to pin on No. 14: 1, Kathi Balasek; 2, Davis; 3, Olson.

The game was called "Fours" for the Table Mountain Women's Golf Club tournament last week. Only the scores on the par four holes were counted for the game portion. Sandy Goble turned in the low gross on the day with a score of 80. Lynn Sutherland shot a net 70 for the low net round. First flight game: 1, Kris McGee, 41; 2, Deb Lerner, 42.5; 3, Dana Blanton, 44; 4, Janett Ott, 44.5. Second flight: 1, Liz Coleman, 41; 2, Paula Brush, 43; 3, Michelle Brown, 44.5, card-off; 4, Leslie Vermillion 44.5. Closest to the pin on No. 12: Ott.

The team of Val Gregory, Joan Hart and Ruth Younger took first in the Butte Creek Women's Golf Club, ABC, one net best-ball format tournament last week with a score of 59. The team of Karla Dreiss, Darlene Thomasson and Peggy Wingate took second at 60. Rounding out the payout spots was the third place team of Cyndi Bailey, Sherri Kimmelshue and Joye Smith with a score of 61.

The IMG Junior World Qualifier Tournament was held this past Saturday at Haggin Oaks GC in Sacramento. Those players that qualify have the opportunity to compete in the World Championship Tournament at the IMG Academy in Florida this year. Tommy Ma won the boys’ 13-14 age division with a one-under-par score of 71 and qualified. Two other local players, Andrew Ma and Morgan Pittman competed in the tournament, but failed to qualify.
